Here is the email I received from Crystal ...
Dear Rain,

I feel I deserve this opportunity to attend your class on a lot of levels. To name a few: I am literally, at this point, homeless. I am staying in hotels on the strip trying to make my dream a reality. I was mislead into thinking I would be safe from my insane cousin who still resides here and ,in fact, I don't feel that way at all. I've been through an emotional wreck. I fear for my safety as well as my belongings. So, I am taking a crazy chance to find work here on the strip to earn my way and get a place to live on my own. But until then, I live in hotels. I drove to LA last Friday to take a tour of a professional makeup school and that trip was a bust. They never contacted me back so I just drove out there to take a tour and everyone kept sending me to the wrong department/school. Couldn't dare afford a hotel in Hollywood so I had to drive back the same day. I felt like giving up, but when I saw the Vegas strip on my way back from Hollywood my heart jumped and felt at home. I know my dream is going to be chipping away to become reality here. Not only am I dealing with the stress of not having a safe home to live in, but I am dealing with my ill mom (still in Florida) that is a whole 'another story. But, she has so many illness' and she is so depressed and doesn't have the money to get treatments and her insurance company is fighting her and in fact sending HER bills for the medicine they agreed to pay. It is making her health decrease.
All she ever says is she feels like she is doomed. Her husband [my dad] walked out on our family to be with a mistress that he has been cheating with for 17 out of the 26 years my parents were married. My mom had a severe accident in 2003 that took a lot away from her. She is not the same person anymore. If i listed everything that is wrong with her compared to how she used to be, you probably wouldn't believe me. She basically has limited freedom. I have been living out of a suitcase to help her out and put my life on hold for one year. I didn't want to give up on her though. She has next to no one to help her. Things happened and opportunities came about, passion began to rise and I decided to come to Vegas. So I left her there in FL under the care of her 79 y/o mother. I want to help her get the treatments she needs to live a happy life. I can do it! I can do it if I just make myself a fabulous makeup artist for the stars or shows or films. I believe in myself enough to know that I can make it. I need guidance and an open heart and a welcoming hand. I don't feel like i am a 9-5 kind of person. I feel I am something beyond that in a different way. Some people, that is ok for them. For me, it is not an option as my career. I am intensely eager to intern with pro makeup artist. I worked for MAC in Florida and was never given the opportunity to learn from them. I had to only go off of what I learned on my own. I only got as far as a free lance makeup artist. Since the economy was so bad they couldn't let any new full timers come in.
I feel if you have a dream, go for it 100%. Beyond the sky is the limit for me. Last night, in fact, I wrote my mom and asked her if I should just go back to Florida. I feel alone with no friends and no family out here. She wrote back this morning and said "do not come back just for me. Lucille Ball was made fun of, told that she was ugly, not funny, and would never make it as a comedian. Look at her now. She is known for it 10 folds." Even though I am scared and running out of money fast. I still am going to fight for it. I have a small makeup kit that I am trying to build but I have something, at least.
My ultimate goal is to work for shows on the strip and be MUA on movie sets. I want to learn everything I can. SFX makeup, airbrushing, everything. I strive to be he best I can be in this industry. My name and potential client names are on the line. I would love for you to be a part of my story. 'Rain helped me get to where I am today'. I am so excited to the point of tears. I'm fighting for my dream. Come what may! I thank you so much for this opportunity and I am so excited for whoever does win! I hope they make their 'untouchable' dream come
TRUE! Good luck to everyone! ♥ Carpe Diem! And God bless!

LVM Cover Shoot

Hello Peeps, We had a great shoot for LVM (Las Vegas Magazine). The day started bright and early at Circus Circus. You might be thinking where would you shoot in CC??? Let me tell you the new Race and Sports Book Rock and Ritas (sister company of Kahunaville) is fun, jam packed and has great food! The décor was perfect for a rock-n-roll photo shoot! Seth Lefkof, wardrobe stylist guru, brought in amazing new pieces from Theory, True Religion, Betsey Johnson and more that haven’t even hit the floor yet. I fell in love with the Jimmy shoo shoes…OMG… adding them to my wish list I was setting up my work area out of the corner of my eye I see a familiar face… could it be Terry Fator? Yes, it was the Las Vegas headliner in baseball cap and jeans, Terry walked in hand-in-hand with Taylor Makakoa, the cover model.  Super model gorgeous standing 6.1, I knew Taylor was going to rock this cover the moment I saw her.

The first look we did was a dress from Theory.  Taylor slipped it on and she looked like pretty woman at the race track! Really was a perfect fit! So, for hair –I went with loose curls pulled to the side to show off her sexy neck line. For makeup—I did a blend of Sexy Extreme Lip Gloss in Rojo by Rain Cosmetics and Lip Shine in Melon Drama from Smashbox. I like to mix lip glosses to lose the intensity and give more a softer look.  For the eyes, I did a mixture of neutral browns with a pop of purple to bring out Taylor’s sultry eyes. And to top it off, I doubled up synthetic strip lashes; I like synthetic lashes because you can curl them.
The next outfit was 100% rock-a-hot (Taylor would look good in a potato sack… but this wasn’t that type shoot, lol) in white skinny jeans that fit like a glove by True Religion, Christian Louboutin 4 inch strappy stilettos and a sexy leather tube top from Betsey Johnson. Every person, guy and girl, mouth dropped who walked by…  I layered up 2 Betsey Johnson headbands to give Taylor a youthful look. I added more clear gloss for high shine and a touch of black eye liner to give more of a cat eye.
They next look Leslie Frisbee Editor in chief (one of my favorite peeps in Vegas) wanted her to rock this hot leather jacket by Betsey Johnson in front of masked man cartoon painting in yellow and turquoise.  Seth added lots of bling jewelry, so I pulled Taylor's hair back with two bobby pins to show off her earrings and added black eye shadow on her lid and dark gray under her eye to really smoke out her exotic eyes.  With so much going on, I took off her deep color lip gloss and added a baby pink Lip Liner, Silk by Mac Cosmetics and an ‘up and coming’ nude matte lipstick by Rain Cosmetics. I love matte lips!

Lunch time… Terry who stayed the entire shoot joined our table for lunch. No puppet acts, but great conversation! He is so humble, funny, and caring!

Back to work onto the last look! Taylor came out of the dressing room in body shaping shinning tights, a glitter skull head silver top by Betsy Johnson and my favorite, Jimmy Shoo heels.  For this look I changed her lip color to a sparkle pink-peach lipstick from Vitoria Secret by Heidi Klum and a peach gloss from Rain Cosmetics (launching in the Fall J) For her eyes –I added a light silver sparkle to the corner of her eyes and on the lid. For hair—I used a 1" curling iron to add a few more waves to compliment her face and fluffed up her hair to give her extra sexy volume!

And that’s a wrap! Check back in a few weeks and I will post the final coverJ

Here are a few tips to keep in mind for your next night out or photo shoot:
1) Divide your face into two halves, top & bottom. Remember importance of light & dark for example; light eye with light lip, Dark eye with dark lip, Light eye dark lip, Dark eye with light lip. Understand where you want the attention to go to up or down, or the face as a whole.
2) With color there are endless variations possible. The better you know what works with your skin tone, bone structure, and personality the more you will love your makeup.  Remember, when applying deep colors, you can always apply lightly and it won’t be so dramatic, but still flattering and can be worn in the day. In the upcoming Woman’s Magazine I give you the 101 on Color Theory.
3) Texture plays a very important role in makeup. Remember: Shimmers, glosses, and pearls catch the light making things come forward emphasizing the features.  AND matte makeup absorbs light making them recede.
4) Don’t forget what setting you are in and create a look that fits the style of the shoot or event. When actors/actress needs headshots they are shot close-up on high definition camera. So the makeup needs to be clean and perhaps not as dramatic. And for body shots models need more defining from the camera view finder. If you are going to the club, know the lighting will be dark so you can wear more makeup. If you’re going to a day wedding outside the sun will be bright and emphasize the makeup on your face; so you may want to go for more of a natural look.
5) In photo shoots the camera light will absorb in the makeup and look lighter on film. You need to go a few shads darker on your makeup because in the pictures the lighting will wash away the makeup.

If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to email me rain@makeupbyrain.com J have a beautiful day everyone! And remember what Coco Chanel says…. “A style does not go out of style as long as it adapts itself to its period. When there is an incompatibility between the style and a certain state of mind, it is never the style that triumphs.”

Peace & Love, rain

who is rain?

At a young age, Rain Andreani recalls her fascination with her mother's make-up drawer. As she evolved through life, she realized in her very first beauty pageant that she had to take her fascination more seriously. Through her pageant experience she quickly learned the importance of looking great in person as well as on stage.

Rain went on to college to study communications, and it was through her roommate, who worked for a reputable cosmetics company, that Rain was given exposure to the cosmetics industry. Rain expanded her range and became quite creative with her new found skill of applying make-up and became the "go to girl" for glamour in her circle.

This was a turning point for Rain, as she had experimented with many other career choices and realized she had a world of options at her fingertips. As she finished college at UNLV she continued studying her new found profession and married prominent fashion photographer, Alfredo Andreani. This set a different stage for their collective endeavor and the perfect marriage was created not only on a personal level but a professional level!

Rain became busy with their photo studio at the make-up helm, and became interested in her clients fascination with the unique blend of formulas she used. That’s when she took her skill and knowledge of makeup artistry to the next level and created Las Vegas’ first makeup line. Featured at salons around Las Vegas, Rain Cosmetics continues to grow as a favorite for celebrities and local makeup artist alike.

Today Rain is on to her next project, traveling the world reaching woman to unleash the beauty in them!
