LVM Cover Shoot

Hello Peeps, We had a great shoot for LVM (Las Vegas Magazine). The day started bright and early at Circus Circus. You might be thinking where would you shoot in CC??? Let me tell you the new Race and Sports Book Rock and Ritas (sister company of Kahunaville) is fun, jam packed and has great food! The décor was perfect for a rock-n-roll photo shoot! Seth Lefkof, wardrobe stylist guru, brought in amazing new pieces from Theory, True Religion, Betsey Johnson and more that haven’t even hit the floor yet. I fell in love with the Jimmy shoo shoes…OMG… adding them to my wish list I was setting up my work area out of the corner of my eye I see a familiar face… could it be Terry Fator? Yes, it was the Las Vegas headliner in baseball cap and jeans, Terry walked in hand-in-hand with Taylor Makakoa, the cover model.  Super model gorgeous standing 6.1, I knew Taylor was going to rock this cover the moment I saw her.

The first look we did was a dress from Theory.  Taylor slipped it on and she looked like pretty woman at the race track! Really was a perfect fit! So, for hair –I went with loose curls pulled to the side to show off her sexy neck line. For makeup—I did a blend of Sexy Extreme Lip Gloss in Rojo by Rain Cosmetics and Lip Shine in Melon Drama from Smashbox. I like to mix lip glosses to lose the intensity and give more a softer look.  For the eyes, I did a mixture of neutral browns with a pop of purple to bring out Taylor’s sultry eyes. And to top it off, I doubled up synthetic strip lashes; I like synthetic lashes because you can curl them.
The next outfit was 100% rock-a-hot (Taylor would look good in a potato sack… but this wasn’t that type shoot, lol) in white skinny jeans that fit like a glove by True Religion, Christian Louboutin 4 inch strappy stilettos and a sexy leather tube top from Betsey Johnson. Every person, guy and girl, mouth dropped who walked by…  I layered up 2 Betsey Johnson headbands to give Taylor a youthful look. I added more clear gloss for high shine and a touch of black eye liner to give more of a cat eye.
They next look Leslie Frisbee Editor in chief (one of my favorite peeps in Vegas) wanted her to rock this hot leather jacket by Betsey Johnson in front of masked man cartoon painting in yellow and turquoise.  Seth added lots of bling jewelry, so I pulled Taylor's hair back with two bobby pins to show off her earrings and added black eye shadow on her lid and dark gray under her eye to really smoke out her exotic eyes.  With so much going on, I took off her deep color lip gloss and added a baby pink Lip Liner, Silk by Mac Cosmetics and an ‘up and coming’ nude matte lipstick by Rain Cosmetics. I love matte lips!

Lunch time… Terry who stayed the entire shoot joined our table for lunch. No puppet acts, but great conversation! He is so humble, funny, and caring!

Back to work onto the last look! Taylor came out of the dressing room in body shaping shinning tights, a glitter skull head silver top by Betsy Johnson and my favorite, Jimmy Shoo heels.  For this look I changed her lip color to a sparkle pink-peach lipstick from Vitoria Secret by Heidi Klum and a peach gloss from Rain Cosmetics (launching in the Fall J) For her eyes –I added a light silver sparkle to the corner of her eyes and on the lid. For hair—I used a 1" curling iron to add a few more waves to compliment her face and fluffed up her hair to give her extra sexy volume!

And that’s a wrap! Check back in a few weeks and I will post the final coverJ

Here are a few tips to keep in mind for your next night out or photo shoot:
1) Divide your face into two halves, top & bottom. Remember importance of light & dark for example; light eye with light lip, Dark eye with dark lip, Light eye dark lip, Dark eye with light lip. Understand where you want the attention to go to up or down, or the face as a whole.
2) With color there are endless variations possible. The better you know what works with your skin tone, bone structure, and personality the more you will love your makeup.  Remember, when applying deep colors, you can always apply lightly and it won’t be so dramatic, but still flattering and can be worn in the day. In the upcoming Woman’s Magazine I give you the 101 on Color Theory.
3) Texture plays a very important role in makeup. Remember: Shimmers, glosses, and pearls catch the light making things come forward emphasizing the features.  AND matte makeup absorbs light making them recede.
4) Don’t forget what setting you are in and create a look that fits the style of the shoot or event. When actors/actress needs headshots they are shot close-up on high definition camera. So the makeup needs to be clean and perhaps not as dramatic. And for body shots models need more defining from the camera view finder. If you are going to the club, know the lighting will be dark so you can wear more makeup. If you’re going to a day wedding outside the sun will be bright and emphasize the makeup on your face; so you may want to go for more of a natural look.
5) In photo shoots the camera light will absorb in the makeup and look lighter on film. You need to go a few shads darker on your makeup because in the pictures the lighting will wash away the makeup.

If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to email me rain@makeupbyrain.com J have a beautiful day everyone! And remember what Coco Chanel says…. “A style does not go out of style as long as it adapts itself to its period. When there is an incompatibility between the style and a certain state of mind, it is never the style that triumphs.”

Peace & Love, rain
